Hello Reader!
Happy Sunday!
I flip-flopped this week's mid-week newsletter and today because I wanted y'all to have those football appetizers before the season officially began... but I also wanted to capture all the goodness from the month of August, which is somehow behind us now.
Before we jump into all that is September, let's talk about August. Specifically... โ
- Kitchen progress. Our kitchen is pretty much done (HOORAY!), and while we have a few remaining items on our checklist, it is stunning. Being able to cook indoors is a dream, and we are having the most fun making different recipes.
- School. It's officially in session. My family is navigating new schedules and making it work, and that feels like an accomplishment because the first few weeks of the new school year always are hectic.
- Friends. Between reconnecting with friends at school and in our school circles, as well as hosting visiting friends, it was a good month for us all. Also, we took our visiting friends to Barton Springs this past weekend, and it was so much fun.
Finally, I know there are lots of places for you to find recipes on the internet, and I really appreciate you being here, supporting my small business and cooking along with me at The Speckled Palate. Thank you!
How did August treat you? What are you looking forward to about the month of September?
Erin
The Top 10 recipes from August:
- Last month's favorite recipe is still rocking. Who knew roasted sweet potatoes were so popular in the summertime?
- This one's a no-brainer. Homemade chicken nuggets are still having a moment and are the perfect back-to-school dinner that don't involve a drive-through or a deep fryer.
- This one always surprises me. These muffins are a homemade version of the beloved box mix, and they are so incredibly satisfying.
- If you're looking for a quick dessert, this one's it. Classic Cheesecake Dip is sweet, a little tangy, and wonderfully dippable for any occasion.
- This homemade boxed mix recipe has become a mainstay in our kitchen and has been saving us every weekend. My older one actually sought this out to make for friends last week.
- Hosting a wine party soon? These wine party appetizers are for you.
- This one's the OG pancake recipe on my site, and it makes me so happy to see it in the top 10. It's a classic... and there's no buttermilk necessary.
- This one's for those of y'all who love this classic poppable app. You can make them with or without bacon. I've got all the details in the post.
- Not gonna lie: this Garlic Herb Butter recipe was made for steaks, but it goes on literally any savory item you might want to add butter to.
- If you're hosting a dinner party in the near future, you might be interested in knowing some of my favorite dinner party desserts.

- Fall is coming! It won't arrive for a bit because I live in Texas... but the idea that the weather is going to cool off sometime in the near future and that I can enjoy all the apple- and pumpkin-flavored things brings me a lot of joy. (Here is the apple recipe I'm most excited to make on our first cool fall morning.)
- It's my birthday month! So you can expect to see some treats on my corner of the internet in the coming weeks.
- Recipe development is a GO. I have been tiptoeing back into cooking since we got back into our kitchen, and I am so excited to start working on recipes for the rest of the year. I've got some really fun things planned, and I can't wait to share them with y'all! Are you interested in seeing behind-the-scenes or do you just want the final results?
