Comfort Food for Fall (Or Pretend-Fall) 🍁

two bowls of sweet potato soup

Hello Reader!

As much as I'd love to tell you the weather's finally turned, it's still solidly summer here. (Cold front, please arrive at your earliest convenience.)

But the calendar says fall is coming, and around these parts, I'm embracing cooking like it, whether or not the thermometer agrees.

Whether you need a quick weeknight dinner or something to simmer all day while you pretend you don't hear the AC running, these recipes are a great place to start...

  • Slow Cooker Beef Stew — it's made in the slow cooker, and my family loves a good meaty stew situation. And I love the fact that it is done whenever we get home.
  • Apple Cider Pulled Pork with Slaw — as a Memphis girl, y'all know I love me some homemade pulled pork, and this apple cider pulled pork sings with seasonal deliciousness.
  • Turkey Taco Salad — I don't typically lean into salads for the fall (Because those feel like spring and summer dishes to me), but this one in particular is hearty and wonderful, so I will eat it year-round.
  • Sweet Potato Bisque — we love sweet potatoes in our house, and this bisque is the perfect use for them. Pair it with Sweet Cornbread Muffins, and your meal is complete.
  • Cottage Pie — I'm a sucker for anything that is covered in mashed potatoes, and the combination of the ground beef filling with the potato is comfort food perfection.
  • Penne Arrabbiata — everyone loves pasta in our household, and this recipe is chock-full of vegetables and flavor.
  • Roasted Cauliflower Soup — because you can't go wrong with the combination of cheese and cauliflower.

  • Birthday celebrations. We celebrated one of our daughter's birthdays last weekend, and it was such a delight making her our family's favorite cookie cake and sharing it with friends at her party. (We baked it in a round cake tin and added homemade vanilla bean buttercream decorations. As you do.)
  • Pre-making breakfast. Whether it's an overnight oat recipe or some pumpkin muffins, I like having ready-made food on hand for myself and my family members so nobody is hungry and so nobody has to cook on a school morning. I am constantly trying to expand my repertoire on this.

Does it actually feel like fall where you live yet? Or is it still very much in pretend mode like it is here? Click reply and tell me what's cooking this week. I am always looking for new additions to our rotation...

Happy cooking,
Erin
